Inaccurate Discussion: A Response to Scott LaFee's "Intelligent Discussion" (Union Tribune, June 8, 2005) [Intro Page]

Fake Cover of the Union Tribune

Pictured above is a FAKE cover of the San Diego Union Tribune, which in reality actually did publish an inaccurate article against intelligent design on June 8th, 2005. The article only interviewed scientists who were anti-ID and contained no quotes from pro-ID scientists or organizations. Many of the statements by the scientists contained inaccuracies about intelligent design, raising reasonable suspicion as to whether some of them were adequately informed about intelligent design.

On June 8, 2005, the San Diego Union Tribune published an editorial in its "Quest" section against intelligent design, entitled “Intelligent Discussion; Local scientists, doctors and professors talk about 'intelligent design'” by Scott LaFee.

The article only quoted scientists who were anti-ID. Many of the scientists quoted appeared to be unfamiliar with the actual primary literature of intelligent design theorists, and some of those quoted were honest enough to admit that they were not familiar with ID theory.

We at the IDEA Center enjoy dialoguing with evolutionists, and hope that when they speak publicly about intelligent design, they will do so after ensuring that they are well-informed about intelligent design. However, though the IDEA Center is based in the San Diego area and although we have a number of pro-ID scientists affiliated with our organization, no one from the Union Tribune contacted us requesting information for this article. They seemed to have invited no pro-ID individuals to participate in this article.

Since the article contained many inaccurate statements about intelligent design theory, we would like to take this opportunity to educate people about intelligent design theory. Below are 2 links with responses to the many inaccuracies in the article, by IDEA Center staff:
  • Short Version: Inaccurate Discussion: A Response to Scott LaFee's "Intelligent Discussion" (Union Tribune, June 8, 2005) [Short Version]

  • Long Version: Inaccurate Discussion: A Response to Scott LaFee's "Intelligent Discussion" (Union Tribune, June 8, 2005) [Long Version]
  • Additionally, as a response to this article, the IDEA Center is sponsoring a series of Intelligent Design Video Nights on July 7, 8, and 9 at the Chula Vista Public Library, where the public will have an opportunity to freely view 3 intelligent design videos to correct misinformation about intelligent design in the article.
