JONATHAN WELLS LECTURE AT UC SAN DIEGO, "ICONS OF EVOLUTION"

Presented by the Intelligent Design and Evolution Awareness (IDEA) Club

January 29, 2002 at UCSD Price Center Ballroom B in La Jolla, CA

La Jolla, California: The Intelligent Design and Evolution Awareness (IDEA) Club at UC San Diego, a student-run club devoted to promoting intelligent design and discussing the creation-evolution issue, is hosting a free public lecture, "Icons of Evolution", by molecular biologist and author, Dr. Jonathan Wells.

This lecture will be held from 7 - 9:00 pm on Tuesday January 29th at the UC San Diego Price Center Ballroom B, which is located at 9500 Gilman Drive in La Jolla, California (just off of the La Jolla Village Drive Exit from the I-5, Click here for Directions). The lecture is free and open to the public, and copies of Dr. Wells' book, Icons of Evolution, will be for sale at the lecture. An informal symposium and booksigning will also take place in Ballroom B from 12 - 2 pm on the same day. For more information, please call (858) 337-3529 or see http://www-acs.ucsd.edu/~idea/..

The lecture will help those attending see how many lines of scientific evidence commonly cited to support the theory of evolution are false. People will be taught to think critically about evolutionary theory, and will be asked if evolution is a well-supported scientific theory. The lecture will discuss problems with common lines of evidence used to support the theory of evolution in general, and also discuss problems in textbooks--particularly textbooks used in classes at UC San Diego. Dr. Wells will offer explanations for why so many falsified scientific ideas are still taught as facts supporting evolutionary theory in textbooks.

Jonathan Wells has a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology from UC Berkeley and a Ph.D. in Religious Studies from Yale. His recent book, Icons of Evolution (Regnery, 2000) sold thousands of copies, was featured on CNN, and has sparked controversy in many school districts by showing that many of lines of evidence used in biology textbooks to support evolutionary theory are false.

The Intelligent Design and Evolution Awareness (IDEA) Club is a student-run organization at UCSD devoted to promoting "intelligent design theory" and good-spirited discussion of the creation-evolution issue. The IDEA Club is an official affiliated chapter of the IDEA Center, a non-profit organization devoted to helping student-run IDEA Club chapters thrive at universities and high schools around the country. More information about the IDEA Club can be found on their website at http://www-acs.ucsd.edu/~idea and more information about the IDEA Center found at www.ideacenter.org. This is the 3rd public science lecture hosted by the IDEA Club at UCSD in the past year.
