Intelligent Design VS Evolution Debate
Dr. Stephen Meyer and Dr. Michael Shermer

Wednesday March 9th (an off-SGA week) @ 7:30 PM in Champ Auditorium at Westminster College.

From the Evolution Corner:

Michael Shermer is Director of the Skeptics Society and Assistant Professor of History of Science at the Institute for Human Progress. He taught psychology and the history of science for 11 years at Glendale College, and occasionally teaches the history of science and culture at Occidental College. He has published Teach Your Child Science and co-authored Teach Your Child Math and Mathemagics with Dr. Arthur Benjamin. Dr. Shermer has just finished two books, Heretic-Scientist, a biography of Alfred Russell Wallace, and The Chaos of History, on the application of chaos theory to human history. He has also written numerous cycling books based on a ten year professional career as a ultra-marathon cyclist and competitor in the transcontinental Race Across America.

Michael Shermer wrote the bestseller "Why People Believe Weird Things" which was published in 1998, and he's currently working on another, much anticipated book entitled "Why People Believe In God."

From the Intelligent Design Corner:

Stephen C. Meyer is director and Senior Fellow of the Center for Science and Culture at the Discovery Institute, in Seattle.

Meyer earned his Ph.D. in the History and Philosophy of Science from Cambridge University for a dissertation on the history of origin of life biology and the methodology of the historical sciences.

Formerly a geo-physicist with the Atlantic Richfield Company, Professor Meyer completed a Ph.D. dissertation on origin-of-life biology and the methodology of the historical sciences. He has contributed to several scholarly books and anthologies, including The History of Science and Religion in the Western Tradition: An Encyclopedia, Darwinism: Science or Philosophy, Of Pandas and People: The Central Question in Biological Origins, The Creation Hypothesis: Scientific Evidence for an Intelligent Designer, Mere Creation: Science, Faith & Intelligent Design and Facets of Faith and Science: Interpreting God's Action in the World.

In addition to his technical articles on design, Prof. Meyer has written many editorial features in newspapers and magazines, including the Wall Street Journal, the L.A. Times, and the Chicago Tribune. He has also appeared on national TV and radio programs such as Technopolitics, CNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews, and National Public Radio’s Talk of the Nation.
